Boston Interactive Mobile Campaign

Boston Interactive Mobile Campaign

Postcard Design

My company periodically sends out mailers to attract new business. This particular campaign was modeled on the notion that “m. is the new .com,” meaning that mobile websites are the shit. And in order to make potential clients insecure about their mobile presence, we designed our postcards to (purposely) feature an awkwardly shrunk-down version of their site on an iPhone. This campaign had a nice, sleek look to it, which I really enjoyed putting together.

Print Advertisement

This was a one-page print advertisement for my web design studio, Boston Interactive. It appeared in a golf tournament brochure in the summer of 2011. I suppose I was in an Apple kind of mood, since I went for a simple image on a white background with minimal text. I couldn't find a stock photo of a cubed golf ball, so I had to create one from scratch. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

Running on Empty Cards

Running on Empty Cards

Mini-Cards

In order to promote my webcomic, I had a series of mini-cards printed up. My favorite variations were the three that featured each of the main characters from the comic. As for the tag line on the front… well, that just came to me when I was sending the files off to the printer.

Business Cards

What you see here are a variety of business cards I created for myself, with each showing a variation of my logo on the reverse side. This was fun because it presented me with the opportunity to balance a sleek, corporate look with a dirty, grunge look.

Belmont Shore Rugby Club

Belmont Shore Rugby Club

T-Shirt Design

From what I hear, my boss at Boston Interactive was big into rugby, so our company is always doing pro bono projects for teams he used to be a part of. One such project I was tasked with was creating a few T-shirt designs for both Belmont Shore and Boston Rugby. This was my grunge design, which makes use of my trademark paint splatter. What do you think?

T-Shirt Design

Another variation for Belmont Shore, offering up a de-saturated logo with a classic yet worn-out look.

T-Shirt Design

A third variation for Belmont Shore, which is easy to imagine on some frat boy holding a red cup of light beer. Very A&F.

Boston Rugby

Boston Rugby

T-Shirt Design

I figure rugby players are more bad-ass than football players, so I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a little blood on their shirt. As Coach McGuirk says, “Men bleed, Brendon. It’s what we do.”

Boston Rugby

T-Shirt Design

Here’s a second variation for Boston Rugby, with the obligatory “est.” date. They liked this one so much, they had me rework it for a golf tournament they hosted.

Boston Rugby

T-Shirt Design

This is a decidedly more “collegiate” design for Boston Rugby, capturing the Ivy League look that the Boston area is so famous for.

Greeting Card Design

Now this is long story. Whenever the people I work with catch wind that I can draw, they immediately want me to draw them. Now that I’m hilt deep in the design world, I was tasked with creating caricatures of everyone on staff in Illustrator. When Christmas time came around, they decided to create a company holiday card featuring the staff monkeying around with our online gift generator. Naturally, I created the print card and this was the result. Real cute, right?

The Daemonstrous Chronicles

Comic Book Lettering

Long-time collaborator Kevin Nugent asked me to letter his latest comic series, The Daemonstrous Chronicles. The very talented Ivan Barriga is responsible for the artwork you see to your left, with inks by Ernest Jocson and colors by Juanmar Studios.

Little Heroes, Tiny Villains

Comic Book Lettering

Little Heroes, Tiny Villains was an incredibly eclectic mix of genres, and really allowed me to do some really creative things with the lettering. The comic began with adult characters in a dramatic battle, quickly changing to little kids with grown-up minds. As such, I had to balance their sophisticated speech with childish dialogue, using different fonts and balloon styles for each. Definitely a fun project. John Culjak was the creative mind behind it all.

The Child

The Child

Comic Book Lettering

The Child was a medieval fantasy series by Kevin Nugent and Ivan Barriga, which allowed me to play with some classical fonts and styles. The whole thing smacked of drama.

Secret Agent: 49

Secret Agent: 49

Comic Book Lettering

This is probably my favorite lettering gig, due mainly to the fact that it was the first time I lettered a color project. Secret Agent: 49 was a series created by John Culjak featuring a meta-human secret agent. The best part of this one was creating the sound effects for the opening action sequence. I’m still proud of the “BOOM” that appears behind the main character. That’s professional-grade right there.

Journey to the End

Journey to the End

Comic Book Lettering

Journey to the End, an apocalyptic tale by Kevin Nugent and Rodolfo Buscaglia, began with a man’s conversation with God. This project provided me with the interesting challenge of cramming large amounts of dialogue into small panels. It really pushed my lettering skills to the next level.

Uncle Tickle

Uncle Tickle

Comic Book Lettering

Uncle Tickle was the first lettering gig I landed, which was a comic that centered on a killer clown. The over-the-top violence and bizarre speech patterns really tested my creativity, but it really came together nicely. I even designed a title for the series, as well as a nice credits page, which can you see to the left.

Dominion

Dominion Teaser

Poster Design

This was a teaser poster I created to promote my Dominion comic/serial. I live traced one of my rough sketches in Illustrator to create the character you see here. The release date at the bottom is actually the year that the story takes place.

Betty Anne

Betty Anne

Poster Design

Betty Anne was a short independent film made by some of the students at CDIA, which told the story of a band, and a mandolin named “Betty Anne.” What you see here is one of several posters I created for the film.

Aptera Brochure

Aptera by Accelerated Composites

Brochure Design

This Aptera brochure was a class project for CDIA, in which we had to create a four-page piece to promote a revolutionary new car by Accelerated Composites. The design I created captured the sleek, futuristic look of the car.

Magazine Article Design

Another course project was designing a magazine article about sound production in film and video games. My approach was to portray sound waves running through the article, which really gave the piece a dynamic look.

April in Paris Perfume

April in Paris Perfume

Magazine Ad Design

This was one of the first things I ever did in Photoshop. My class was given a bunch of photos of models and perfume, and told to make a full-page advertisement out of them. I sketched a few ideas, and then created the collage you to see to the left. Not bad, right?
