Rose is a twelve-year-old girl whose short life is filled with tragedy and loneliness. After her mother died giving birth to her, Rose spent a brief part of her childhood with her father. Unable to give her the proper amount of attention, her father gave her up for adoption at age five. After spending the next few years bouncing from one foster home to the next, Rose became a runaway at age eleven.
Now, after spending a year on her own, Rose believes in nothing, and relies on no one. Living on the streets, she steals what she needs to survive. Her life gets turned on its ear when a chance encounter with a heavily scarred gang leader known as Vengeance nearly kills her. Fortunately, she’s saved by a stranger named Remiel who claims to be a former angel, and accompanies him on his travels to snuff out a “great evil” unleashed upon the world.
Remiel reminds Rose of her father, a fact that compels her to stay by his side on his journey. As an atheist, Rose is understandably skeptical of Remiel’s angelic claims. But after seeing his unique abilities, she begins to wonder if he, and the world, is not all that it appears to be.
